Slow Stays | Another Place, Lake District (ad/pr stay)

It’s been three years since my last stay at Another Place, and a lot has changed. For a start, this time I wasn’t staying in the hotel - I was sleeping in one of their new luxury double shepherd’s huts located in the vast grounds. Surrounded by autumn foliage, serenaded by owls and overlooked by the striking architectural form of the neighbouring treehouse, I felt like I was in a completely different location.
The newly launched Outside collection of rooms at Another Place are much more luxurious than your typical glamping experience, however. The huts are located just a short stroll from the main hotel, along a well lit path that weaves into a private garden area for each hut, complete with two adriondack chairs, a firepit and strings of twinkling lights. Each hut is actually a duo of shepherd’s huts attached together - an ingenious way to add more comfort and luxury elements to an accommodation which can often feel cramped. The first hut that you enter through has an L-shaped cushioned bench positioned in front of a wood burning stove, with a small kitchen nook with all the essentials for making a brew. There’s also a sizable wardrobe and a snug bathroom, before you step through into the second hut which is completely filled with an incredibly comfy bed beneath a star-gazing skylight, and a huge copper bathtub. There’s plenty of space to stretch out and snuggle up - even with your dog allowed to join you.
Another Place is the perfect place to stay for anyone who loves the outdoors but likes to indulge in a little luxury. During our two-night stay I enjoyed my very first paddleboarding lesson (I’m proud to say I can now stand up on a paddleboard!), a wild swim, a wander around the shore of the lake, a climb up a big hill and numerous dog walks around the ground before returning to our hut to wrap myself up in a bathrobe after a long soak in the tub. I swam in their iconic pool with it’s large windows offering views of the lake and mountains, dozed in the sauna, lounged in the hot tub and relaxed during an incredible full-body massage. I ate delicious breakfasts that filled me up for the day, and indulged in three-course evening meals full of fresh ingredients, followed by tasty cocktails from their comprehensive menu. In the evenings, we retreated to the library for drinks and board games, snuggled up by the fire. It’s the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor, rustic and luxury.
It’s also the perfect place to slow down and really relax. There’s something about staying in ‘outdoor’ accommodation that makes me want to rise much earlier than usual and make the most of the day. That meant sneaking out of bed for 7am swims in the pool before breakfast, leaving plenty of time for perching on the steps of our hut with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and lighting the fire mid-morning to cosy up with my book. Even though we packed a lot into the short time we had there, it never felt rushed. I enjoyed so many quiet moments: sipping a cocktail in front of a roaring fire, dangling my legs off a wooden jetty while admiring the views, standing on top of a hill overlooking the lake, standing on a paddleboard, letting the breeze push me along the water.
